Laboratory Services
Clients can count on Covance to listen to their needs, understand their strategy and objectives, and work diligently to shape the appropriate solution. We have five medical doctors, 11 PhDs and over 180 laboratory testing personnel with expertise in clinical trial drug development. Our staff is well qualified to provide consultative services and to design and implement studies that provide consistency, accuracy and precision for your data.
Laboratory Pre-Analytical Services
Covance Central Laboratory Services processes daily incoming specimen kit shipments received from investigator sites around the world. During the receipt process, frozen and refrigerated specimens are separated from ambient samples and kept at the appropriate temperature while they are processed. During production, each specimen kit, tube, and requisition is assigned a unique bar-coded accession number. Once these kits are received back at Covance Central Laboratory Services, each item is scanned and linked to the demographic patient information provided on the visit-specific requisition form.
As Covance Central Laboratory Services receives specimens, we compare each specimen received against your customized, protocol-specific database which automatically verifies:
- Visit sequencing
- Required testing
- Optional testing
- Patient demographics
- Collection date/time
- Specimen stability and proper condition.
Once kit specimens are scanned and confirmed against the protocol-specific database, they are routed to the laboratory for testing.

Our broad, global on-site testing capabilities allow us to manage the simplest of studies to the most complex. We offer quick turnaround time on special esoteric analytes. We have a broad spectrum of services in laboratory medicine that includes the scientific disciplines of immunology, microbiology, virology, genomics, hematology, flow cytometry, routine chemistry, special chemistry and pathology. With more than 400,000 square feet of laboratory facility available, we can easily accommodate new technologies and work with clients to achieve their protocol testing needs. |
